All I did was....Home Staging Success Stories

All I did was.... stage Russell Peters home.

Advantage Staging stages many upper price point homes in the Vaughan and Toronto area for clientele that are not always living in the country year round.

As we handle everything from A to Z on the job, we receive many inquiries from agents who are referred to us to work with this niche group of clients. They appreciate that we provide seamless, stres free service with no worries for their clients.

Recently we received a call from an agent in Mississagua who asked for a consult on a property in Vaughan. When I entered the foyer this is what I saw first......

russel peters

A giant sized poster of a Russel Peters Comedy Tour.  I commented to the agent that the seller must be a huge Russell Peters fan.  He smiled and said yes, the client was indeed.

I looked into the front living room and this is what I saw....

Now, it isn't everyday that you see a 10 foot tall stuffed giraffe in a front living room along with an area rug with martini glasses on it.  I commented that the seller must really love comedians as there was a giant poster of George Carlin on the wall as well.

I tried nonchalantly to avoid mentioning the giraffe but you know, it was RIGHT THERE in the middle of the room.

The agent once again said that the seller loved comedians and had a great sense of humour. It was at this point that I just had to ask who the seller was.

It was none other than Russell Peters. This was his home to drop in to when he was in Toronto.  Russell had grown up not far away in Brampton and this was his home whenever he returned to town.

His agent was none other than his boyhood friend since the age of 5, Marlon Dubeau. Yes, the same Marlon that Russell talks about in his comedy routines.

Russell came down to join in the consultation for a few minutes before flying off to his primary residence in  Los Angeles. He really is just a normal guy with an outstanding sense of humour that people around the world find funny. I had to ask why there was a giraffe in the front room. Apparently the giraffe was part of the manger scene in the CBC Russel Peters TV Christmas special this past year.

Unfortunatley, the gaffe kept hitting the giraffe in the head so it had to leave the set. It seemed like a good idea at the time to bring the giraffe home.

I continued on with the consult, made notes as to furniture, artwork, props and accesories I would need to stage the home so that it would appeal to a family moving in.  The home was definitely in a sought after area by young families looking to raise their children.  Schools, shopping and community centres were all close by.

The property sold for the highest price in the neighbourhood.

Staging helped to show this property as family friendly and move in ready. Another staging success story.

Michelle, Every time I go to a staging consultation there is that slight moment of suspense wondering what's on the other side of the door!  Seems like you were very professional and delivered great results.

Hi Michelle ~ I must admit I don't know Russell Peters, but I recognize a beautifully staged home when I see it --- congratulations on helping them achieve the highest selling price in the neighborhood!  The lonely giraffe wouldn't have gotten the same results LOL :-))

Michelle.....I'm afraid I've not heard of Russell Peters either!  BUT like Maureen....I do know that is some GREAT staging!!!  Congrats!

HI Karen, we really never do know what to expect when we arrive for a consultation. One time I had two chest freezers in a kitchen along with a 5 foot high bird cage with a parrot inside the cage.

Hi Maureen, they had listed the property on the high side so I was pleased for them that the house sold for the highest price the neighbourhood had seen. The giraffe had to go along with the 18" high replica dolls of the bank Kiss.

HI Kathy, thank you for the great reveiw of our company work. Much appreciated!

You certainly put the focus back on the house, Michelle, rather than the quirky decor.

Wow Michelle, what a difference! As much as I like Carlin and giraffes, not quite what buyers have in mind when searching MLS! I thought you were going to talk about the 'elephant in the room' but it turned out to be a giraffe...

Michelle - I think you should look into comedy, because you had me laughing out loud with this post!  How exciting to stage a celebrity's home.  Trust a comedian to have a stuffed giraffe and a martini glass rug showcased in their home!  Love the after photo, but the before photos have me grinning from ear to ear!

So, you are saying that you didn't think the giraffe was a good staging prop?

Hi Melissa, it's funny you say that. Look at this....

Someone (guess who?) thought the giraffe looked right at home in the living room. The kids will love it theme. LOL!!

Hi Julia, don't know what it is about our staging work but if it isn't parrots in 5 foot cages, wart hog heads and zebras mounted on the walls it is a giraffe. I seem to attract niche clientele!

Hi Peg, Yes I forgot about the "green elephant in the room". I always like to say, you can live in a house any way you wish but when you are staging it's all business.

Hi Sally, it is so much fun working in my area. The clientele is so ecclectic and the homes are always show stoppers.   Thanks for stopping to see this tall tale!
